Family: Quintero at Corondo

What a bitter sweet session this was as this was the first family I photographed in San Diego and also one of my last sessions before moving to Bremerton. I first met this family when I photographed them for Front Yard Homecoming Sessions a little less than a year ago. I had literally just moved into my house and they lived a few houses down from me. Little did I know that Lacey would quickly become one of my best friends in San Diego.

Hotel Del Coronado is one of the most historical and well known landmarks on Coronado Island.

Some people think you need sun and blue skies to get the most perfect photos. However, clouds really add a depth and dynamic to your images. I LOVE the colors that clouds soak up during sunsets. It truly makes cloudy evenings the most ideal for photo sessions.

I always try to make sure we get photos of “mom with the kids” and “dad with the kids” during every family photo session.

Be still my heart. I got to know these two girls this past year and truly have grown to love them and their individual personalities. I think the below photo really captures these two and their fun, wild, happy spirits!

How do I know what size print will work best on my wall?

I get this question ALL THE TIME! My favorite trick is to take painters tape and place it on your wall so you can get a visual of the perfect size(s). It is not permanent, so if you hate it, redo it in either a bigger or smaller size! There are two easy ways to go about this:

1. Just wing it - aka put tape up to the size that pleases your eye on the empty wall and then measure it. We can easily create a custom size print from these measurements.

2. Take a tape measure to measure the exact length and width of a pre-determined size and then place the tape up on the wall to match that size. I.E. 16x20 print or a collection of prints to visually see how it will fit in your space.

Keep it up for a few days just to make sure you LOVE it and then during our reveal you will already know exactly what size prints you want for your wall!

Why a photo reveal?

It is a stress free process to help you narrow down all your favorite photos from your session and pick the best photos for printed artwork. I LOVE photo sessions, but I seriously LOOOVE photo reveals. It is truly so much fun to relive the photo session together and If you have never hired a photographer that includes a photo reveal YOU ARE MISSING OUT!

I used to be a photographer that took your photos and then just emailed the final images in an online gallery. However, I quickly learned that the digital files would just sit online FOREVER (yes us photographers know when you download your photos!) and I would always wonder so many things… Did they even like the photos? Which photos were their favorites? Did they print the photos? What else can I do to make sure I have super satisfied clients?

After talking to a few clients I was told it was often just too overwhelming to pick favorite photos and they had no idea what or where to print their photos. Therefore, I no longer leave my clients hanging by sending them a gallery of images and saying alright "enjoy!” We sit down together via Zoom, at your house or my house and go through all the final photos.

I get to learn what photos you LOVE and which photos you really have no interest in. With a simple yes or no process we narrow down your favorite photos from the session. We discuss any retouching needed (i.e. people or objects in the background or a child’s booboo). I want to make sure you leave the photo reveal satisfied with every photo you choose.

Picking images to print can be super overwhelming. That is why I am here! We take time to figure out which images you want printed and whether artwork or portfolio pieces will work best with your lifestyle. I give my professional advice on the beauty of each product. I can even show you what different size photos will look like on your own wall! (ASK ME HOW!).

It's so much more than just the photo session. Hiring me is a full experience from the consultation, photo session, photo reveal and final delivery of printed artwork.

I will never go back to what the industry calls “shoot and burn”. I want The Portrait Experience to be a wonderful EXPERIENCE, from setting up a consultation, getting to know each other, the photo session, the photo reveal and the final excitement of receiving your custom artwork in person.

Yes, digital images give an instant satisfaction, but there is nothing like having printed artwork in your home that you can enjoy everyday!
