COVID-19 Updates

It has been six weeks since my dad was put on a ventilator, fighting for his life due to COVID-19 and six weeks since I have been the sickest I have ever been due to COVID-19. Crazy how it feels like a lifetime ago, but at the same time still feels like yesterday.

My mom, sister and I believe we have fully recovered as we have almost all our energy back. The fatigue, post all our symptoms, lasted about five weeks. After a long quarantine in Guam, Travis tested negative and is now safe back on the ship. Romel (my sisters MIL) is out of the hospital and recovering. Fuji and Kaya are back to their happy puppy ways.

It's been three weeks since my dad came home from the hospital! We are all smiles and can't get over how blessed we are to have him with us today. He is still on oxygen and we hope he can eventually get off this. He is getting stronger everyday and can now walk four minutes straight down the street. He's a little bummed since he use to walk/swim/bike miles a day - but we all know it's going to be a slow recovery - and what can you expect after four weeks of being bedridden and seven days on a ventilator?

Once again we can't stop thanking everyone for all their kind words, positive thoughts and prayers. ❤ Stay safe! #foreverthankful P.S. Travis, Jen, Drew and Josie we miss you.

We were one of the first families to get super sick with COVID-19 in Colorado. My dad had his first symptoms March 12 and a week later was admitted to the hospital. I then had symptoms (was tested March 22 with a positive test result arriving two weeks later) and although I never went to the hospital my oxygen levels hung around 90 and I have never felt so sick in my life.

Looking back these are the most important facts about our nightmare of COVID-19:

  • We all had different symptoms. My dad and I were the sickest and my mom and sister just had mild symptoms with a cough and tight chest.

  • None of us had a high fever. Our temperature was usually between 89.7 and 99.4

  • I had every single symptom that CDC failed to post (they finally posted the updated list as they learned more about this virus- thank goodness) but these included: Body aches, Extreme headaches, Fatigue, High Heart Rate (170 walking up the stairs, 110 resting in bed), lost of taste and smell, pink eye, mild cough, very tight chest, GI issues and extremely nauseous even though I never threw up.

  • It wasn’t even a big deal in the USA yet, but we were being safe due to my parents age. We were all limiting our contact to just small groups. My mom and dad got sick after hanging out with two couples in their home. That is a total of six people!!! The other couple there didn’t even get sick!

  • I think the blood type theory is bullshit. My dad is O, I am A and my mom and sister are A.

  • I think the man vs. woman theory is possible. My dad got the sickest out of all of us.

  • I think the most important thing is to monitor your oxygen. Even when my mom and sister had mild symptoms their oxygen was at 92 and 93. Your oxygen should be around 98-100.

  • The worst symptoms (from my experience) lasted about four to seven days and came in waves. You would feel great and then hit rock bottom.

  • Count your blessings. Virtually hug the ones you love <3

I don’t know when all of this will end. I don’t know when people will start taking this seriously. I feel like my family didn’t even have time to comprehend what “could happen” before it just happened and we were all sick fighting for our lives. Please just take this story and realize this is real and it is scary. I don’t think we should live in complete fear, but just be cautious and wash your hands!

My dad lost over 30 pounds in the hospital and had to learn how to walk again. He is still on oxygen and full of positive energy. Short term memory loss is getting better. I am just forever grateful that we have him here in this photos. As we walked…

My dad lost over 30 pounds in the hospital and had to learn how to walk again. He is still on oxygen and full of positive energy. Short term memory loss is getting better. I am just forever grateful that we have him here in this photos. As we walked him to the car so my mom could drive him to the ER I told him he had so much to live for and to hang in there for us. Thank you dad, for hanging in there and fighting this. We love you so much!
