These three siblings had birthday celebrations (and half birthday celebrations) within a few months of each other so their mom wanted some updated photos of all three of them! We both agreed on Ft. Zachary as a location to do something a bit different than all the other photo locations we have used together (this family is the ultimate best on the amount of times they have hired me to capture their family moments! I feel so special). I really wanted something symbolic so I was super excited to find this stump the kids could sit on with the tree growing next to it. It provided a fun little sitting prop for the kiddos and for size comparison of all three. I also think trees represent so much (family tree, growth etc.) so it was the perfect spot for these birthday photos. We even made sure to get a few of the whole family because they are the cutest and their mom is always on point with the best outfits. We ended the photo session on the beach with the rocks and some candids of baby A running in the water - she’s a beach baby at heart, no doubt. It was a lot of fun trying out some new Key West spots besides just the beach with palm trees and spending some time with this lovely family <3 I am looking forward to our next photo session sometime in the future!
Key West Photography
My sister came to visit with my adorable niece and I could not pass up the opportunity to get some photos of them two together. My all time favorite location in Key West is Smathers, because it is such a beautiful beach to photograph with palm trees, rocks, grass and the blue water. However, I wanted to adventure around Ft. Zachary in order to scout locations for future sessions and my sister was all about being my test model. My ultimate favorite photo of them is the first one, which was a true candid I captured when she didn’t know I was still taking photos…. It makes my heart melt how happy baby J is to look at her mom. I literally can’t get over those baby cheeks and chunky thighs. <3 I know I am bias, but is she not the cutest baby ever?!?!
I don’t usually photograph weddings anymore, but when Mallory’s mom got in touch with me about photographing her daughter’s wedding I couldn’t say no! Mallory is a fabulous photographer here in the Keys and I have loved getting to know her and admire the great photos she takes. Their big wedding date isn’t until November, but as is very common for many in the military, Mallory and Gary had a small ceremony to tie the knot ASAP. They chose to get married at the gorgeous Bahia Honda with the infamous bridge in the background. Her mom and I decided to surprise Mallory, so she had no idea I was going to be there to document the day! That made this even more special. Talk about a lot of pressure to photograph another photographer - hahah - but it was such a fun evening full of so much love. Here are a few of my top favorites from the ceremony. The newly married couple photos will be on the blog soon. :)
Smathers for the win! It seriously is a photographers playground with all the locations to take photos at. It also doesn’t hurt when you get to photograph a lovely family here. We started off this session on the walkway to the beach and their daughter was full of tons of smiles. She was even super helpful on holding her baby brother for a few photos - my heart was melting!! We then continued to the beach grass - I just love the soft green look and the hazy backlighting as it flows perfectly with my passion for bright and airy photographs. Mom had some fun holiday props that we included in a few photos. Such a great idea since the only thing Christmas feeling in Key West is the holiday lights you see everywhere. We ended the session with a few single photos of their baby and their daughter had a mini session dressed up as a princess from Frozen. The loving energy of this whole family sure did make my evening :) :) How do I get so lucky to meet so many nice, wonderful and fun people?!?
These three. I just can’t! They were recommended to me by another friend I photographed and I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet them. We took their holiday photos at Trumbo so we got a nice mix of the green bush, which I just love for a Christmas feel, and then wandered the beach for a bit to get some Key West feeling photos. Their sweet child was such a free spirit and wanted to explore on her own so I made sure to get some of just her on the beach. Check out that AHMAZZZINNGG sunset we got as well! I feel like these cotton candy kind of sunsets are so rare and man, oh man they are breathtaking!
Holiday Minis are so much fun…. BUT what is even more fun, is photographing repeat clients (can I call them friends?). I feel like once I take a photo of you, you’re automatically a friend, as client seems way too professional. I am definitely a professional photographer, but I want to be a friend more than anything as I want to be someone you feel comfortable with and am willing to let go and be yourself with so I can capture those raw, intimate moments! When a previous friend comes back to me for another round of photos it’s a wonderful way of letting me know they are super happy with my work. I strive to make you happy, so this action makes me one of the happiest people in the world. I had the honor of photographing Shaydee when she was pregnant with this cute little babes.
So fun to get together with them again and get some family photos for their holiday cards! I love that they went with a grassy, green park look instead of the beach in order to change it up a bit. I only do holiday minis in SEP/OCT/NOV and as a thank you, give previous clients all the photos instead of just ten! <3
Kacie and Justin were visiting from Maryland and wanted some fun beach photos with palm trees! If you have been to MD, you know they sort of lack in the beautiful palm trees that Key West offers. I was so excited to meet this couple since I was born and raised in northern VA. We took our time exploring my all time favorite location, Smathers Beach and taking some updated photos. I LOVE photography (obviously!) and love when I meet other couples that are totally in to updating their couple photos for their home and social media. I try to make an effort to do this every year, because you never really know what will happen. It’s so important to try and live and take in every moment and if you can record it with a professional photographer that is a win, win! It made my week that I was able to get some photos of these lovebirds while they were in town for the boat races.

Look at these cuties! I spent my evening photographing these three on Smathers Beach. L was in town with her mom visiting family and they wanted some photos of all three of the kids together. L was a little bit afraid of the sand but she did a great job being only 17 months! T, being the oldest of the three was such a little model and all smiles with her sister, A. We had a lot of laughs together :) Man oh man, I really do love my job! Also, can't get over how fun Smathers beach is for some many different photo looks (grass, beach, trees, walkway and rocks).
I had the pleasure of photographing Roy and Andrea for their maternity session and once their baby was born we had a newborn session as well. It's always great to get to know the people I photograph and be a part of capturing their life moments. Baby A's grandma, grandpa and uncle were in town and they wanted some updated photos for their home. So we went to my all time favorite location, Smathers beach and took all sorts of family photos including: the whole family, mom and dad, grandma and grandpa and a mix of different poses. We even took some with sunglasses since it seems quite appropriate for Key West's sunny weather. We ended the session with a beautiful sunset! It can sometimes be a challenge to get a three month to look at the camera, but baby A was very well behaved and gave us some glances and smiles every once and a while. I had such a wonderful time getting to know this whole family and they made me laugh a lot during this session! Interested in booking a family session of your own?? Such a fun early morning Mommy + Me mini session with Lisa and baby J. I have photographed baby J with just his dad for a photo series we are doing every three months, so I was very excited to get some with mom this time around :) Mom was glowing in the Key West sun and Baby J was all smiles being out on on the beach with his toes in the sand and water!
I had such a fun family session at Smathers Beach in Key West! Look at this cute family <3 We started off this photo session with some sunglasses photos - because it's so sunny here it felt very appropriate. From there we took some photos on the mini boardwalk and continued onto the beach. Mom did a wonderful job on the outfit choices - the pretty pinks, yellows and blues went so well with the beach grass and matched the sunset. Also, how adorable is E? She was all about twirling, jumping and smiling for the camera :)
One of the best things about being a photographer is getting to meet so many fun, new people. I also love that every session is unique! This family: mom, dad and 17 year old son were in town on vacation in Key West. I am so excited they hired me to take some updated photos of their family. We made sure to get some of just mom and dad too! I am not going to lie I was a bit nervous, because she is a photographer as well so the pressure was on to get some good photographs! We had a wonderful time wandering Smathers beach for all my favorite photo spots and of course made sure we got a sunset photo! <3 <3
OH MY GOODNESS! Look at how adorable baby A is! Only 10 days young, she was such a perfect little model for these posed photos. I photographed mom and dad's maternity session before she was born and am so grateful I had the opportunity to take these photos. We had to have a mermaid theme since hello, KEY WEST. It was also important to get some America themed photos since her daddy is in the Coast Guard and last but not least, Easter is coming up so a BUNNY costume was a must too! I honestly can't choose my top favorite :) Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
*I have received numerous requests to do posed baby photos and am excited to announce that I now have a studio set up and am able to adventure more into this creative look. If you are interested in posed photos or a lifestyle newborn session (or both!) please contact me to book a session.*
Look at baby J now six months old! So cute to see how much his facial expressions have changed and how active he is now when you compare the photos from his three month session. He is almost as big as the teddy bear prop! Baby J's mom approached me about doing a photo series with her son. We are doing a series of taking photographs when he is 3 months (see those photos here), 6 months and 9 months with the same prop of this big teddy bear. We also did a few with dad :) Can't wait to see his cute face three months from now!
One of my favorite things about being a portrait photographer is getting to know each person I photograph. I had the honor of photographing Konrad for his senior photos. He loves camping outdoors and hiking so we avoided the beach and took advantage of some of the more tropical/tree/brick areas available on Key West. He's also into science, space and video games :) We didn't have a location on this island that best represented this but I loved exploring Martello tower and learning fun facts about the island from Konrad. Can't believe it's already time to celebrate the class of 2018!
Oh Baby! Oh Baby! I am just madly in love with this photo session. I can't ever pick a favorite since I am pretty convinced I fall in love with every session I do, but this one is on the top of my list of "making me feel all the good feels" heheh. These two were part of my Halloween minis and I was super excited they had me photograph their maternity session too! Andrea was glowing the whole time and I was super stoked she was willing to get on some of the beach rocks and in the water. I think it made for some super stunning photos that they will be get to cherish for a life time. Special shoutout to her husband Roy who was a great assistant on holding Andrea's dress out and running out of the photo just in time to get some great dress in motion photos (third to last photo). Key West you are becoming such a wonderful playground for these photo sessions!
Baby K was born the end of December and she is way too cute for words :) I absolutely love lifestyle newborn sessions and this one was extra special because I got to photograph my two friends. They are just one adorable family! We even made sure to get some with their cute dog!
Oh, 2017 you have been quite an adventure! Travis and I left Japan in January, spent our 21 day honeymoon in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Lived in an RV in San Diego for a few months for Navy training, drove across the country, settled into Key West in June and then evacuated for a month due to hurricane Irma! We were constantly on the move but I somehow still managed to get in some photo sessions. I am beyond THANKFUL for the amazing photo memories each of us have created together. I'm very much looking forward to 2018 and the opportunity to capture many more beautiful moments in sunny Key West!
